Sam Adams Longshot Wild Child

Brewery – Sam Adams (Boston Beer)
Beer – Wild Child
Style – American Wild Ale
ABV – 5.7%

This mixed fermentation wild ale leads with an aroma of stone fruits.  It’s slightly sour with hints of clove, apricots impart a dry fruity flavor and the brew finishes with a pleasant, lingering tartness.

This winner was brewed by Duane Wilson, and his co-brewer Mike Edwards.  Duane says of his beer:

“I love to cook.  Making beer is a lot like that.  Homebrewers strive to make a lot of styles and we’re always looking to improve them.  I enjoy the engineering that goes into making a primo beer.”

Duane has been homebrewing since 1995

My Thoughts On Sam Adams Wild Child

This is bright and clear in the glass, with a really nice yellow… maybe slightly orange color.  There is an extremely thin head that goes away very quickly.

There is a slight earthiness in the aroma, that is kissed by a slight fruitiness right along side it.

The beer’s flavor reminds me of drinking a cider.  A really nice fruitiness is lifted off the palate by a brisk carbonation, and the finish is slightly tart from the apricots.  This is really nice, though not at all what I was expecting it to be.
